Bold 9700 / Windows 7 64 bit / desktop v7.1.4

I have a bold 9700 and am using Windows 7 64 bit / desktop v7.1.4.  USB synch. Cannot synch with outlook office 10. Synch process appears as ongoing but at the end no synch occurs. Is this outlook problem? Can I use the new desktop v10 with the bold 9700 and would this fix problem? Thanks for any help
